Memphis Shelby Crime Commission unveils Operation: Safe Community 2012-2016

The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission, known for its’ Operation: Safe Community plan, convened a press conference on Friday, March 23 at The Urban Child Institute to introduce Operation: Safe Community 2012-2016. Over the past five years, Operation: Safe Community has reduced major violent crime by 22.8% in Shelby County and reduced major violent crime in Memphis by 23.8%. Learn More...


Memphis Leaders Share Successful Youth Violence Interventions as a Part of White House Initiative on Youth Violence

Washington, D.C. –Memphis leaders took center stage to share some of the city’s best practices in youth violence prevention. The 2012 National Summit on Preventing Youth Violence, hosted by the United States Department of Justice, April 2-3 in Washington, D.C., gave Memphis the opportunity to highlight the progress made this year on its youth violence prevention plan.Memphis is one of six cities chosen by the Obama Administration to take part in the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention. The Memphis Youth Violence Plan is incorporated under Goal #5 – Reducing Youth Violence of Operation: Safe Community 2012-2016.

Memphians Honored as White House Champions of Change for Their Work in Youth Violence Prevention

Washington, D.C. –Twelve leaders are recognized as Champions of Change for their work to prevent youth violence within their communities as part of the National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention. Two of those to receive the honor are Memphis Pastor Keith Norman, Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church-Broad and Marlon Foster, Founder and Executive director of Knowledge Quest.
